Eldoret, which is the headquarter of Uasin Gishu has been dubed “The City Of Champions” and as such has hosted and sourced several phenomenal athletes who have made a mark for themselves in the Athletics world around the world. Legendary Athletes include; Kipchego Keino and Moses Kipcheino. Some of the recent artists who have put Eldoret on the map include; Vivian Cheruiyot, Ezekiel Kemboi, Asbel Kiprop, Geoffrey Kamworor, Janet Jepkosgei,


Eldoret Golf Club has a 9 hole golf course and seeks to serve all the golf lovers and enthusiasts within and outside Uasin Gishu County. The club has been priviledged to hold numerous golf tournaments within its course and has since been a great promoter of the golf sport in uasin gishu. The golf captain is tasked with organizing golf sponsored events to be carried out every weekend at the well designed and serene golf course. Golf is indeed a sport slowly being embraced within the county.


Skating is a fun and an interesting sport. The sport has gained a lot of popularity with many enthusiasts including children and the youth who use malls and less busy tarmacked roads to practice their art. Skating Enthusiasts and Experts formed Eldoret Skating Club that seeks to provide an environment to promote and nurture talent in Skating as well as provding an avenue for skaters to use their skills on the same. The skating scene is vibrant as you would find skaters on pavements and on the side of the road skating their way, or on roadshows distributing fliers and what not. Skating is quickly gaining ground within the county, as even several kids camps provide skating lessons as part of the holiday activities for kids within and around the county.


Eldoret has an active home for Volleyball and as such has seen it hosts a variant of annual events in regards to the same including the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) premier league and AMACO International Tournament. Uasin Gishu volleyball team (men & women) have always put the county ahead of it’s counterparts in the Kenya inter-county games (KICOSCA Games).

Safari Rallies

Safari Ralleys have normally been set in an environment with a scenic view. Uasin Gishu county and counties within the Noreb counties have been the preffered routes because of its hilly nature, massive drops, countless hairpin bends and the decenTs and ascents of Nyaru and flourspar. The sport is adrenaline charged and has seen many rally and car enthusiasts within and ouside the county visit in order to spectate and cheer their favorite drivers. Some of the rallies hosted in the county include KCB Safari Rally championships, which was the first international motorsport flagged off in Kenya, the championship is organized by Kenya Motorsport Federation (KMSF).

Ezekiel Kemboi

He is a two time Olympic and four-time World Champion in the 3,000 meters steeplechase. He is a popular athlete among Kenyans due to his style of running.

Asbel Kiprop

He is a three times World 1500M Champion and 2008 Olympic Champion.

Vivian Cheruiyot

Vivian is a long-distance runner who specialized in track and cross country running. She is an Olympic champion in 5000M and was recently crowned the London Marathon champion.

Ednah Kiplagat

The 2011 and 2013 IAAF World Champion in the marathon was born and raised in Uasin Gishu county. She established herself as an elite marathon runner with wins at the Los Angeles and New York City Marathons in 2010.
